Jesuit education may be described as formation taking place over a length of time. It aims to go beyond mere schooling and simple instructions. In our students we are dealing with .impressionable persons of great dignity whose worth in their own eyes and God's, we are to encourage them to see. We confront them with challenges to excellence in order that they may appreciate and foster their talents.
To help our students discover and foster their talents. XAVIER provides various activities like:
Adventure and Nature club, Astronomy club, Biology & Environment club, Computer Club, Cubs and Bulbuls, Scouts and Guides, Dramatics club (English/Hindi), Duke of Edinburgh Entertainment club, G. K. club, Maths club, Debate and Elocution Press club, Philately club, Physics and Chemistry club, Safe club and Public Speaking.
The Principal and the Vice-Principals are responsible for the discipline in the School, with the assistance of all the Xavier teachers.
Here, in Xavier, we believe in a value-based common discipline necessary for the smooth running of the school. Punctuality, neatness, uniformity of dress, courtesy, consideration for others and a co-operative spirit are insisted upon. We also encourage initiative and positive expression of creative energy. The aim is that self-discipline, to be of any positive value, should, by stages, become part of every student's personal equipment for life.
Freedom and autonomy are the basis of discipline. The students are left free to accept the atmosphere of the School, to learn in a free and cooperative manner. The School has no penal system for handling students who are found to be regularly uncooperative. Parents are simply asked to put them in another School which may be more suited to them. Freedom and its counterpart, responsibility, have to be learnt slowly and freely accepted, in an atmosphere in which students exercise judgement and make free choices about matters appropriate to their age and level of understanding. Students' mistakes are tolerated as part of the process of learning, but repeated misbehaviour against the spirit of the School and hindering other students from peacefully learning, is not tolerated, even if this causes pain to the parents of the stubborn uncooperative students.
The Principal reserves the right to dismiss, from the School, any student whose conduct is, in his opinion, against the good moral tone of the School. Immorality in word or deed, wilful damage to School property, grave insubordination, contempt of any authority, unsatisfactory progress in studies, lack of diligence or the use of unfair means in examinations, bringing in dangerous articles, callous attitude towards school regulations are sufficient grounds for dismissal. The Principal is the sole judge regarding the dismissal of a student. Parents, when they apply for their ward's admission to Xavier, are understood to have accepted the Principal's judgement in such matters as final and conclusive.
ABSENCE: All absence from School, even with prior permission, must be explained by the parent in the "Absence Record" page, found in this Diary, before the student is admitted into the class. If the leave is for more than 3 days, besides the note in the diary, a separate letter must be added and the same must be sanctioned by the coordinator.
An absence of 3 or more days, before or after a vacation, without prior permission, renders the student liable to have his/her name struck-off the rolls and to submit to a formal re-admission by paying a fee of Rs. 1000/- when he/she returns, provided his/her place has not been given to another applicant.
At the start of the academic year, the first day of absence will render the seat vacant which would then be allotted to another applicant.
A child is expected to be present on the last working day before every vacation and on the reopening day. Otherwise marks will be deducted from the terminal exam.
The present course of studies will extend from Kindergarten to Std. XII and is oriented towards the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (I.C.S.E.) and Indian School Certificate (I.S.C.).
The Medium of instruction is English, However, Hindi has a vital role in the curriculum and is taught daily in all standards. Education at Xavier is liberal and universal, but at the same time it is Indian and firmly rooted in Indian History and tradition, and according to the suggestions made by the Indian Education Commission.
The curriculum, therefore, embraces Religion, Moral Instructions, English Literature & Composition, Hindi, Environmental Education, History, Geography, Civics, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Accounts / Economics, Computer Science, Socially Useful Productive Work, and SAPA in the lower classes.
Since education at Xavier is conducted in English and a high standard of English is required for success in I.C.S.E. and I.S.C., the use of English on the school campus is compulsory.
Regular attendance, alertness in class, performance of regular class work and revision are sufficient to make progress.
Parents could make the class teaching even more valuable if they speak correct English and Hindi with their wards at home. In this connection it is to be noted that private tuition is regarded as unnecessary, if not harmful. It encourages students to be inattentive in class.
No student is allowed to go to his/her own subject teacher for tuition.

Xavier School, Gamharia
Dear Friends,
Xavier School, situated at Gamharia is a unit of X.I.T.E (Xavier Institute of Tribal Education), a registered society established in 2003. The school was established in 2012 and is run by Jesuits, members of Society of Jesus, a religious Society founded in 1540. From the beginning Jesuits were involved in secondary education. During the 16th, 17th & 18th centuries Jesuits were called schoolmasters of Europe because of their numerous schools and their system of education.
A Jesuit institution is, first and foremost, God-centered. Its motto is AMDG – For the Greater Glory of God. It acknowledges with reverence its dependence on God’s Providences. Since all its enterprises are supported by God’s grace, it follows that its achievements are credited to God. Jesuits are motivated, and in turn motivate their collaborators to develop sensitivity to God’s presence and power and to give God due praise and honour.
The late President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam often talked about his education in a Jesuit institution, St. Joseph’s College in Tiruchirapali, paying tribute to the teachers who shaped him.
There is a typical Jesuit term which is loaded with meaning : MAGIS. It is the Latin for more but it is interpreted by Jesuits as ‘striving beyond limits’. It is excellence plus ! Excellence means endeavoring to ‘be the best’ and ‘do our best’ not merely within the limits of what seems humanly possible but going beyond it by the power of the spirit within. People with the excellence plus mindset do not measure their progress against an absolute standard but rather explore the fullest possible development of their personal potential at each stage of life, coupled with willingness to continue this development throughout life. Excellence is a process not an end itself.
Xavier School as an institution strives for excellence. It achieves this through a common goal. It requires that all who are associated with it should have an unwavering commitment to this goal, genuinely believing they can achieve it and each member feeling he or she has a meaningful role to play in pursuing this goal. Each must stretch himself / herself to accomplish the objective.
Collaborators in Jesuit Institutions are considered as companions rather than employees. Jesuit companions / collaborators have the responsibility of making every effort to develop their talents beyond the ordinary. They must seek opportunities to stretch mind and imagination beyond limits. They are also called to excellence that is to be outstanding in whatever field of service they are entrusted with. They have to interact and work with collaborators belonging to different religious affiliations. They must perceive God at work all around them. They are expected to be women and men for and with others. Jesuit institutions abide by the principle of Servant Leadership. The higher the status and position, the greater are their obligations and opportunities to serve and to lead others to service.
Xavier school welcomes you to join us in our educational work to transform the society.
With best wishes,
Yours sincerely,
Fr. Kuruvilla V.S.J.
Secretary, Xavier School, Gamharia
Greetings to one and all!
Having completed Eleven years in April 2023, Xavier School Gamharia is one of the most sought after schools in Jamshedpur and around. Started with just 260 students and 10 teachers, today it has nearly 3000 students, 90 plus teachers and 30 plus co-workers who are engaged in our educational enterprise.
Started with an idea of imparting education to a child from KG to PG in a sprawling landscape of 35 acres with a lot of greenery around we have now a school from LKG to XII and a college with many Graduate level Courses within this campus. This is an Institution owned and run by the Jesuits of Jamshedpur Province with the collaboration of religious sisters of CTC and lay faculty. The school is inspired and guided by a Vision of preparing students to become professionally competent and conscientious citizens, having concern for others, especially the underprivileged, to build a just and humane society.
Xavier School is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) with Secondary level Examination (ICSE) and Higher Secondary level Examination (ISC). Xavier is an international brand known for quality and excellence in education as well as all round integral development of the student, to which also belong the educational institutions such as XLRI and Loyola School in Jamshedpur as well as other Xavier or Loyola Jesuit educational institutions in the country.
The Jesuit educational institutions are inspired and governed by a concept ‘Magis’ a Latin word which means never be complacent and satisfied with the present performance but aim for a bigger, higher target that can loosely be summarised as ‘Good is not good enough when better is possible and the best is within our reach.’ Our curriculum is designed to create an ambience for our teachers and students to equip themselves with knowledge, skills and right attitude that, in turn, will make them intellectually competent, morally conscious, socially compassionate and physically committed individuals in their lives.
So welcome to join us in a world of unlimited possibilities!
